We're a few geeks working at Stripe's Tokyo office who like the logistics of money movement just a wee bit too much. This site is a... passion project, I guess? We wanted to educate people about what reconciliation of payments actually looks like in the real world while also making learning about it more fun than just reading. If you'd like to work at Stripe in Japan, we're hiring aggressively, including in engineering. We are building products like Stripe Invoicing and support for bank transfers which would make the lives of this game's protagonists (and their real-life counterparts!) much, much easier.
Play the game and you'll learn about it in a hurry! But the short version: reconciliation in a business process which matches incoming payments with outstanding invoices. It is necessary for businesses to do it to do their monthly accounting, service their customers, and understand their cashflow. It sounds dreadfully boring but, like many infrastructural topics, has fascinating depth to it.
